Program Welcome News Summer 2008

 Date: 5/5/2008
 From: Helaine Schwartz, Director
 Contact: aspdp@schools.nyc.gov

As the Director of the After School Professional Development Program (ASPDP), I welcome you to our new website. I am pleased to present the Summer 2008 Professional Development Course Catalogue.

The After School Professional Development Program has proudly served the New York City Department of Education for over 51 years. We take pride in offering pedagogues high quality, convenient, low-cost alternatives to college courses across all content areas that may be applied toward salary differential and the NYS 175 hours of professional development requirement.

Aligned with the Children First Initiatives, our mission is to offer valuable and viable alternatives to college courses. These courses are designed to positively affect student achievement through the professional development of teachers, secretaries, and other school personnel, and simultaneously enhance the professional staff’s skills and expertise.

In the past, limited copies of the published Professional Development Opportunities Catalogue were mailed directly to the schools. As we enter into a technological age, the “P” In-Service course listing is only available for on-line viewing at the After School Professional Development Program website, http://schools.nyc.gov/Teachers/aspdp

I strongly recommend that you read the ASPDP Program Policy before you register for any courses. When you register you are agreeing to the terms outlined in the Program Policy.

In addition you should frequently check the Program News for announcements regarding any updates and/or changes that have occurred. The information posted on this website contains the most up-to-date course information available.

We encourage you to look through the current course offerings, and that you share the information with your colleagues. Please feel free to contact the Office of After School Professional Development at 718-935-5753/2716 or contact us at aspdp@schools.nyc.gov with any questions or comments you may have.

We wish you success in all your educational and professional endeavors and hope that you have a rewarding and valuable professional development experience.

The Office of After School Professional Development, thanks for your continued support.

AOL User Alert

 Date: 5/5/2008
 From: Helaine Schwartz, Director
 Contact: aspdp@schools.nyc.gov

If you are AOL account user, please know that you may experience difficulty receiving e-mails from the ASPDP website. Unfortunately, due to virus worm threats AOL has set high security settings and may not deliver e-mails to your AOL account. This is especially the case for AOL members who have recently requested passwords and enrollment in a course.

To help rectify this problem the webmaster has been in communication with AOL and is desperately working to rectify this situation.

In the interim we asked that you kindly add the following e-mail addresses listed below to your AOL address book:

aspdp@schools.nyc.gov

This will allow you to receive e-mails form the ASPDP website. Additionally please check your AOL spam folder, as the e-mail may have been delivered to this folder.

If you still experiencing trouble or anxious about being closed out of a course please phone 718-935-5753 or 2716, and someone from the ASPDP office will enroll you in the course providing that it is available.

Thank you for your patience.
