Open Market Hiring System

WELCOME TO THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ONLINE OPEN MARKET TRANSFER SYSTEM. THE OPEN MARKET TRANSFER PERIOD FOR THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR IS FROM APRIL 15TH 2015 – AUGUST 7TH 2015.

One of the important changes in the current collective bargaining agreement between the United Federation of Teachers and the Department of Education is the creation of an open market hiring process that will increase opportunities for teachers and other current staff applying to seek positions in different schools throughout the system. Offering this opportunity to all staff provides wider choices for both staff and schools, and will help facilitate better matches between current employees seeking new positions and schools seeking to fill vacancies with qualified and experienced professionals.

The Open Market Transfer System is for use by staff in all regularly appointed UFT titles including Teachers, Guidance Counselors, School Secretaries, Lab Specialists, School Psychologists, Speech Improvement, School Social Workers, Attendance Teachers, and UFT Paraprofessionals. At this time applications for new schools must be submitted through the process indicated on the new schools site. This site includes postings with extensive information on the new schools, positions, application process and selection criteria.

Pre-K for All is seeking enthusiastic and effective teachers to staff classrooms in new district-based model called a Pre-K Center for the 2015-16 school year.
A Pre-K Center is a New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) operated program that serves only pre-K students and will be staffed by NYCDOE personnel. Each Pre-K Center will have sufficient supervisory, support, and teaching staff to ensure the safety of all students enrolled at the center. Staff is currently being hired. Pre-K Centers will be located either in new buildings that are designed specifically to serve pre-K classes or existing district school buildings where space will meet the needs of each pre-K class. Pre-K Centers in existing district school buildings are not affiliated with other schools in those buildings, and will have separate staff and leaders.

Note: Applicants can submit applications directly to schools until 2015-16 school year vacancies are available.

Important Steps for UFT Excessed Staff - ACTION REQUIRED - ENTER/UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION IN OMT: It is essential for employees placed in excess to immediately update their contact information in the Open Market Transfer System (OMT). OMT is the primary portal for obtaining information regarding positions, job search support, and instructions on where to report in September.

INFORMATION ON WHERE TO REPORT ON THE 1ST DAY OF SCHOOL Assignment locations will be finalized in late August and will be viewable via the “My Current Status” link. ATRs will not report back to the school they reported to in June, so all excessed teachers/employees must check back to verify reporting location for school opening.
